Pre-Service Teachers as Researchers: A Mentorship Model

In this paper, we share a mentorship model developed and implemented while collaborating with pre-service teachers (PSTs) on their Model Eliciting Activity projects the outcomes of in terms PSTs’ growth as well researchers. For projects, PSTs designed own mathematical modeling tasks later analyzed student work collected during task implementations to better understand students’ reasoning. The reflections were assess effectiveness program report professional growth. who participated identified core teaching practices (e.g., questioning, facilitating discussions) they improved knowledge thinking They also able analyze rich data identify trends learning. findings from study affirm that engaging undergraduate research provides opportunities improve practice understanding processes.
